A Guide for Parents and Our New Little Learners!
The first week of preschool is a big milestone for children and parents. At Hill Country ELC, we believe the first week should feel warm, joyful, and reassuring, laying the foundation for a year filled with confidence, curiosity, and growth.
Whether this is your child’s very first classroom experience or just a new beginning, we’re honored to partner with your family during this exciting season.
Here’s what you can expect during your child’s first week at Hill Country ELC.
Day One: Big Smiles, New Friends
For Parents:
The first day is all about connection and comfort. Our teachers focus on learning each child’s name, helping them feel safe, and building trust right away. It’s completely normal for children to feel a little nervous or emotional at drop-off. Our team is experienced, attentive, and ready to gently guide them into their day.
For Kids:
“Today you get to meet your teacher, make new friends, and explore your classroom! We’ll show you where your backpack goes and help you find fun things to play with.”
Learning Through Play
For Parents:
At Hill Country ELC, learning happens through hands-on, play-based experiences. Children explore through art, music, stories, building, and imaginative play—all designed to support early literacy, problem-solving, motor skills, and social-emotional development.
For Kids:
“You get to paint, build, sing, read stories, and play games every day!”
Gentle Routines That Build Confidence
For Parents:
Young children thrive on routine. During the first week, we introduce daily rhythms—circle time, snack time, outdoor play, rest time, and story time. These predictable moments help children feel secure and confident in their new environment.
For Kids:
“Every day has fun parts—play time, snack time, outside time, and stories!”
Making Friends & Learning Together
For Parents:
Preschool is an important time for learning how to share, take turns, communicate feelings, and solve small problems. Our teachers model kindness and guide children as friendships naturally begin to form.
For Kids:
“You’ll learn how to share, take turns, and play with your new friends!”
Big Feelings Are Welcome Here
For Parents:
Every child adjusts at their own pace. Some jump right in, while others need a little extra reassurance, and both are perfectly okay. At Hill Country ELC, we honor each child’s emotions and provide patience, encouragement, and care.
For Kids:
“It’s okay to feel happy, excited, nervous, or even a little sad. Your teacher is here to help you.”
